RAJESH RETHNAM, MD., FCCP.

Rajesh Rethnam graduated from medical school at the Government Medical College Kottayam in Kerala, India. He completed his residency at Drexel University College of Medicine – Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He then went on to complete his fellowships at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, NY.

Board certified in Pulmonary medicine, Sleep medicine, Obesity medicine, Internal medicine, Critical care medicine and Neurocritical care medicine. His clinical interests include critical care, sleep apnea, insomnia, parasomnia, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders, asthma, COPD, sarcoidosis, neuro-muscular diseases, pulmonary fibrosis and insulin resistance.

Rethnam has been in practice since 1997 and sees patients 17 years and older. He believes in taking as much time as needed to address each patient’s concerns and is dedicated to providing the best possible care to keep his patients healthy. He speaks English, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi. Office staff speaks Spanish. Residents of the Memorial area, Rethnam and his wife have two children. Ashley Ray, PA-C

Ashley Ray, PA-C, graduated from Texas Tech University in 2009 with a Bachelor in Biology and then went on to complete her master’s in Molecular Pathology at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. She worked for MD Anderson Molecular Diagnostics lab for two years before returning to PA school. She graduated from Baylor College of Medicine at the end of 2014 with her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and worked in Family Medicine from August 2015 until April of 2024.

Over the last eight years, her focus has been on delivering quality care to patients with acute and chronic illnesses among patients of all ages. Her clinical interests focus on being an integral part in the patients care and wanting to help contribute to patients’ quality of life. She strives to deliver efficient, effective, quality care with a warm bedside manner. Through her own health journey, she has learned how valuable it is to breathe easily, sleep deeply and maintain a healthy body weight. As a native Houstonian, Ashley loves the cultural diversity and enjoys working with patients from all different cultural backgrounds, and is proficient in Spanish. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys: reading, doing pilates, hanging out with her husband, friends/family, shopping and traveling. Having been a collegiate cheerleader at Texas Tech, she is very passionate about sports and loves watching football.

RACHEL MATTERN, FNP-C

Rachel Mattern is a board certified nurse practitioner at this clinic. She graduated her bachelor of science degree in nursing at Texas woman’s University in Houston, Texas and began her nursing career in 2011. Rachel has worked at multiple magnet hospitals at Texas Medical Center throughout her nursing careers, such as Ben Taub General Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital, and MD Anderson cancer Center. She received her MS degree at her alma mater and transitioned into a family nurse practitioner and is board-certified since 2018. Rachel has been practicing in family, pulmonary, sleep and obesity medicine. She sees patients of all ages.

She strives to provide quality care to patients by incorporating critical thinking skills and family centered principles to improve patients’ healthcare outcome. Rachel is devoted to foster a culture of education, research, efficiency and diversity in her career. She speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay, and conversational Spanish.
