Bronchoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera (bronchoscope) to view the airways and collect tissue or fluid samples. It’s commonly used to evaluate unexplained cough, lung infections, abnormal imaging results, and suspected lung cancer. It also helps identify causes of airway obstruction or bleeding.

PleurX tubes, on the other hand, are used for patients who have recurrent pleural effusions—fluid buildup between the lungs and chest wall, often due to cancer, infection, or heart failure. This small, indwelling catheter allows for regular at-home drainage of fluid, relieving shortness of breath and discomfort while reducing the need for repeated hospital visits.

Our pulmonary specialists manage these procedures in collaboration with hospital teams, ensuring you receive expert care with minimal downtime. We also provide pre- and post-procedure counseling, education on at-home care, and coordination with oncology, cardiology, or infectious disease teams as needed.

If you’ve been advised to have a bronchoscopy or require frequent chest fluid drainage, call (281) 652-5864 to discuss your hospital-based options with our team.
